FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We’re glad you asked.
What is Send Food?
Send Food an online marketplace that connects funded food assistance with local supermarkets, allowing verified families to shop for food directly from participating local grocery stores.
How does Send Food work?
It’s simple! You fund food, and Send Food allocates your funding to a verified family according to their needs. The family receives a QR code via WhatsApp showing their available food funding, which they can use at participating grocery stores to purchase the food they need.
Does 100% of my funding become groceries?
Yes. 100% of the amount you choose to fund becomes groceries that families in need can redeem at participating grocery stores. We do not use your food funding for any other purpose.
This is our guarantee.
If you don't take any of my funding, how do you cover your operating costs?
A separate 12% platform fee is added to your food funding total. Participating grocery stores also pay Send Food a small transaction fee.
These revenues help cover the technology, payment infrastructure, currency exchange, taxes, transfer fees and operations that make Send Food possible.
Your food funding remains 100% allocated to groceries.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. We believe you should know exactly what you're paying for. All applicable fees are clearly shown on our website and at checkout before you complete your funding.
Is Send Food a charity?
No. Send Food is a technology and marketplace business, not a charity or NGO. We provide the infrastructure that connects food funding with verified families and local grocery stores.
Who receives the food?
Send Food works with verified families identified through our network of trusted organisations and partners.
Can families choose what food they buy?
Yes. Families use their QR code at participating grocery stores to choose the food their household needs.
Giving families the ability to choose their own groceries is central to our mission: to make food assistance more dignified.
How do I know my funding was used?
Send Food records each redemption through the platform, giving funders visibility of the grocery purchases made with their funding.
Can I fund food for someone in another country?
Yes. Send Food is built to enable people to fund groceries across borders, wherever our platform is operating. Our goal is to build a global network of families, organisations and local grocery stores.
What happens if a family doesn't use all of their credit?
Any unused balance remains available to the family for future grocery purchases, subject to the terms of the programme through which the funding was provided.
Can I fund food regularly?
Yes. You can fund food whenever you want, or choose a monthly subscription to provide ongoing food funding.
